A 2020 beauty recap.

I'm just as keen to leave 2020 behind and never look back as anyone else, but before I can turn the page and focus on the good things that New Year will hopefully bring, I'm sure a good ol' beauty recap won't hurt. In retrospect, 2020 has been an odd one for obvious reasons, mostly focused on self care and skin products with some makeup bits here and there for those 'feel better' looks meant to boost the mood more than anything. Of all the beauty bits I've tried for the first time and those that were already well loved, these are the ones that stood out the most.

If you follow me on Instagram my first pick won't be a surprise as I've been rambling about it non-stop over there: Foreo UFO was a total skin saviour during the past stressful months and is now my new favourite gadget. Anxiety, constant snacking and the mask rubbing on my face on a daily sure took a toll on my skin that quickly became dry and irritated; UFO came to the rescue with its speedy treatments and beautiful serum-infused masks. I don't have the patience for sheet masks but 90 seconds for a mini Spa session at home are easy to set aside at any time of the day, particularly when the effects are quick as a wink: after each treatment my skin is noticeably plumper and more hydrated, glowing and healthier-looking.

With three empty jars in the bin and one currently in use, I think I can safely say that the Pixi Double Cleanse is officially one of my holy grail cleansers now. First comes the balm that melts away any trace of grime, makeup and sunscreen, including the most stubborn waterproof mascara. The second step is a creamy formula that helps you wash away any residue and leaves the skin soft and nourished. I'm all about soothing, comfortable product at the minute and this cleanser leaves my skin feeling incredible.

Sunday Riley's Juno Oil is another of those feel-good products that never fail to calm down my irritated skin. It's packed with vitamins, anti-oxidants and all kind of good skin barrier-supporting ingredients that nourish deeply and restore the glow. It's pretty impressive stuff, like a superfood smoothie for the face. I need to repurchase as I'm out of this now and I can tell my skin misses it already.

A lot of my everyday favourites are from Charlotte Tilbury and I really cannot be blamed cause her products are simply fabulous. With the Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray it was love at first drizzle: not only it does give such wonderful glow, while refreshing the base and taking away any powderiness, but also makes everything transfer-proof and thus less likely to rub off onto the mask. It's not super glue, but it helps a lot, and did I mention that it smells heavenly?

The Magic Vanish corrector just had to make it to this list as it has been an everyday favourite of mine all year long. It has enough pigment to cover dark circles and fatigue, instantly brightening the eye area, but I've also been using it on the face to disguise minor imperfections on those days when I really couldn't be bothered making an effort. It's just so lovely, creamy and natural looking, I would love to see the same formula in concealer shades.

Finally, let's talk about a beautiful brow combo that helps me create the ultimate laminated brow look in just a few strokes - enter Surratt Brow Pomade and MAC Shape + Shade Brow Tint. The pomade sets all day without stiffening the hair for a fluffy textured effect, while the eyeliner pen creates fine, smudge-proof hair-like strokes to fill any gap. Easy peasy and long lasting. I mean, what more could you need?!

Facilissimo e a lunga durata. Insomma, cos'altro si può desiderare?!
